Coronavirus: most asked questions

Pets and Unaccompanied Minors

Whether your child is taking their first trip by themselves or you’re travelling with your furry friend, we’ll provide you with the latest updates on travelling during these unprecedented times.

Unaccompanied Minors

Our Unaccompanied Minor service has been temporarily adjusted and is now only available on direct flights. Please do not combine two separate bookings, as this service is not available during transfers.

If you use the Unaccompanied Minor service, you can check in the minor at any check-in desk at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Shortly after you receive the boarding pass, one of our agents will pick up the child that is travelling alone.

Health requirements and additional documents

At the airport, you’ll be asked to declare that your child is healthy and fit to fly. You’ll also need to agree that depending on the destination, your child could be subjected to a health screening (e.g. a temperature check) under supervision of the staff accompanying your child.

Your child must be in possession of all required travel documents. We advise you to check the health requirements and additional entry documentation of the countries your child is travelling to and from on their governments’ websites. Make sure to check the requirements shortly before the trip, as they often change.

At the airport

At some destinations, wearing masks is required in public areas, including the airport. Make sure to check the health requirements of the airports your child is travelling to and from and follow the instructions at the airport.

On board

Until further notice, all passengers aged 10 and up are required to wear a face mask to prevent the further spread of the virus. Make sure to bring enough face masks, as they are not provided by us. Without a face mask, we cannot allow your child to board.

Travelling with pets

Are you flying with KLM and transferring at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol? You’re still allowed to take your pet with you in the cabin. Sadly, it’s not possible to bring your pet in the hold until 31 October 2020. It would really help us if you make the reservation for your pet close to your departure date, but at least 48 hours before departure, so that our Customer Contact Centre can focus on bringing people home.

Do you have an existing booking with a reservation to bring your pet in the hold, and do you have a transfer at Schiphol Airport? We’ll contact you as soon as possible.

If Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is your departure airport or your final destination, you’re still allowed to bring your pet in the hold. The regular requirements apply.
